Key achievements
Significant progress has been done in the following area.
  • Condoms are available in most of the districts.
  • Many distribution outlets for condoms have been opened in 4 provinces. (In four pilot provinces namely Nyanza Western, Coast and Nairobi the distribution of condoms had reached over 10 m per month because the JSI was facilitating. After the support was withdrawn the number per month now is staggering at 3m per month).
  • The increase in uptake condoms has had a significant impact on the prevalence of STI/HIV/AIDS. Helped reduced new infections especially among those engaged in high-risk behavior, youth and commercial sex workers (CSW).
  • Development of tools to monitor the distribution and consumption of condoms are being revised.
  • Distribution of female condoms is being carried out along side the male one.
  • Advocacy funds have been issued to selected nine (9) districts
  • To decongest main KEMSA warehouse many condoms have been distributed to regional warehouses. Districts need not come to Nairobi KEMSA for condoms.
  • Many organizations NGOs, CBOs and other institutions access condoms from district store
  • There is an increase in demand for condoms especially among the youth.
  • Training of TOTs on advocacy was undertaken in two provinces namely Central and part of Rift Valley.
Objectives

1) To develop a Curriculum in Advocacy in HIV/AIDS prevention
2) To Adopt the community Strategy in HIV/AIDS Prevention
3) To roll out the reviewed condom monitoring tools
